Four of Chekhov's stories read whole for anyone: «Смерть чиновника», «Толстый и тонкий», «Студент» and «Ванька», and so does «Медведь». In German, «Der süße Brei» also reads whole without an account. In Spanish, «Las medias de los flamencos» also reads whole without an account. In French, «La Dernière Classe» also reads whole without an account.

Create a free account for the seven Chekhov stories, whole, and your second beginner lesson. It saves your words, progress and place across devices. Creating an account does not start a paid plan or a trial. The remaining lessons and interactive books open with a subscription, and both plans start with seven free days.

The public editorial reading pages and word lists remain available without an account. These reference pages are separate from the interactive courses and guided practice. Any free edition you have already downloaded remains yours.

What you should know before subscribing

Prices include VAT where it applies. Payment is handled by Paddle.com Market Ltd, which acts as the merchant of record and issues the invoice.

It renews until you stop it. You can cancel at any time, without notice and without giving a reason. Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.

Both plans start free. Nothing is charged for the first seven days. Paddle takes your payment details when you subscribe so that the plan can continue without a second visit, and makes the first charge — €5.00 on the monthly plan, €39.00 on the annual — when the trial ends, then every month or every year after; Paddle writes to you before that first charge. Cancel before the trial ends and nothing is ever charged. The fourteen-day right of withdrawal runs from the day you subscribe.

Your reading record is yours either way. If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted and nothing is held back — you can export the whole record at any time, subscribed or not. What lapses is access to the paid texts. The learning sample and public editorial reading pages stay open.

Refunds and the right of withdrawal are set out in full on the right of withdrawal page. In short: if you are a consumer in the EU you have fourteen days to withdraw without giving a reason, and we refund by the same means you paid with.
